Using Technology to Cultivate Community in Academic and Administrative Contexts - workshop with Dr. Christopher P. Long
(Seminars/Workshops)

Can social media be used in an academic context to create communities of learning and student engagement? Professor Long will pull back the curtain on what he playfully calls the "social media empire" he and his staff have built around the liberal arts undergraduate experience at Penn State. Using Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, podcasting and blogging, the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies (LAUS) office has created a community of engaged students in the College of the Liberal Arts at Penn State. Drawing examples from this community, Professor Long will lead a discussion of the benefits and limitations of using social media in an educational context.

Please RSVP (preferably by sending an email to brinj@newmanu.edu) to join us for this exciting workshop. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:00am - location TBA on the Newman University campus. There will be a short break at 9:30am to allow people who need to leave for class.
